Water Quality Issue Resolved for Horizontal Rectangular Steam Sterilizer
Latest company news about Water Quality Issue Resolved for Horizontal Rectangular Steam Sterilizer

Recently, one of our clients reported a water leakage issue with their horizontal rectangular steam sterilizer that bought from us. Upon remote diagnosis and guidance from our engineering team, the problem was successfully resolved — and it turned out that water quality was the root cause.

What Happened?

The client had been using untreated tap water for the machine. Over time, this led to significant mineral buildup inside the steam generator, especially on the water level sensor (probe). As a result, the sensor could no longer accurately detect the water level. The machine kept filling water, causing overflow and internal backflow — which the client initially reported as a “water leakage” issue.

How We Solved It

Our engineers provided step-by-step instructions to clean the internal scale and restore normal function:

  1. Purchase citric acid — Food-grade citric acid works well and is easy to find.

  2. Pour the solution through the water level probe port — Dissolve around 50g of citric acid in warm water, then pour it into the steam generator through the water level sensor opening.

  3. Let it sit overnight — Do not run the machine during this period.

  4. Drain the system the next morning — Open the steam generator’s drain valve and let the dirty water and loosened scale flush out.

  5. Optional: Drain again after the first sterilization cycle of the day — At this point, the jacket is still pressurized, which helps push out more residue and scale.

  • Important Reminder

To avoid such issues in the future, we strongly recommend using softened or purified water instead of untreated tap water. Poor water quality can not only affect sterilization performance but also reduce the lifespan of key components like heating elements and sensors.
